Student Writings, 2004 -- #2:
"The Time Machine"

There have been some writing competitions for HK students recently, and I felt I needed to share some of our students' efforts with you. 

The premise of THIS competition was a story about two kids, Jack and Cherry, who go in Dr. Mo's time machine to the year 2104. They tell the kids in 2104 all about what school is like today, in the year 2004 -- but when they return from the future, they must tell their classmates HERE about what they learned about school in the year 2104.

So our students were supposed to think about this situation, and write an ending to Jack's report about what school life is like in 2104. 

Here are their contributions EXACTLY as written, spelling and all:

1. Sharon

     "I don't want to go back home!" said Jack and Cherry. "Why?" said Dr. Mo. "Because 2104 have many thing is interesting," said Jack. "You see some thing is interesting, then you should talk to your classmates," said Dr. Mo. "That's great!" said Jack and Cherry.
     On lext day, Jach and Cherry went to school and talked about yesterday they went to 2104. The classmates are very surprised, they hope to go to 2104 too, so Jach-Cherry and there classmates go to find Dr. Mo. "We hope to go 2104 once," said Jach-Cherry and there classmates. "OK, but every one should try to the best, and in summer holiday come back to find me, I will talk everyone to 2104." said Dr. Mo.  

I think I knew a girl once who could talk you to 2104, too... 

2. Wednesday

     There is 2104 year. We wear t-shirt and carry computer, not carry heavy bags. We study many subjects, too, but we have little homework, and we are not have test, have exams. We are so happy, because we are have many time to play game with friend. 
     We go to school on plane, we are the school is so big, have 800,000,000 cm tall, the school have nine computer rooms, ten playgrounds, and the school have a room give me sleep and play.  

I'm glad that in the future we are not have tests -- just exams. (But I wish my apartment had a room give me sleep and play...)

3. Woody

     It's machine.
     It's name is Dragon.
     It has two wings, can help me go to school. 
     It's head has one shell, can help school beat back the evildoer, safeguard school. 
     It has two hand, the hand can fly, come out and fight people, very fun. 
     It's very fun and useful so I think it can preserve school the security.  

I'm not so sure 2104 sounds all that safe...

4. Fanny

     Jack's school life in 2104. My school in sky, go to school by plane. Teacher will be machine. Mashine very kind. Go go school, not taken book, is taken computer. Do homework in computer done. I think is very interesting. In school sleep. Could Saturday and Sunday go home. My mother and father always come to my school.  

That "go go" school thing sounds fun... Anyway, this one was accompanied by a drawing of a school, floating in the clouds, with a giant cross on top... just... like... heaven... 

5. Janet

     In 2104, we go to school, use a computer to check your outward look, see if you not this school student. If you is this school student, the school door will open. In the classroom, everyone student have our robots and ship. Robots is help you to difficult homework or housework, and school bus is ship instead, ship help you to go to school and go home. This school alway has a space picnic activity, the student could meet alien. 

Janet's drawing shows students on the moon, having a picnic with an alien -- "I'm nice to meet you," says the alien. 

6. "Anonymous"

     This is a machine. This machine always is in the toilet. It has a broomstick. It always clean the toilet. It is people the best friend, because the people very like it. But this machine don't talk to people, because it is the machine. It doesn't tiresome. This machine the job is clean the toilet. It always help the children, help the older person. It is people the friend! 

Hmmm... And this is related to school life in 2104 because... ?!?
